the kaleidoscope of textiles

In the final semester of my senior year of college, I was lucky enough to take a graduate class within the Textile Department, focusing on ethnic dress from around the world. The main project for the semester was researching and learning about specific articles of ethnic dress we had present in the Historic Textile and Costume Collection that we did not have much information about.

Each of my classmates and I was allotted an item or two to research, focusing on the history and purpose of the object. Additionally, we used various microscopes and cameras to find the fiber content and method of production for our item. We compiled this information into a written paper, a powerpoint presentation, and a condition report.

Finally, another graduate class physically put together the exhibit, while we used our research to create promotional material for the show.
